Where an Accent Chair Actually Works

An accent chair solves the spaces no large piece of furniture reaches: the corner by the window, the foot of the bed, the entryway where you sit to take off your shoes, or the side of the living room when guests arrive. Because it sits outside the main set, it is the piece that lets you shift the colour or texture of a room without touching the sofa. For a reading corner, angle it toward natural light and keep at least 60 cm clear so you can get in and out.

The Measurements to Check First

Most accent chairs run 60 to 80 cm wide with seats 40 to 45 cm off the floor. Next to a sofa, look for a backrest at a similar height so the room reads as balanced; beside a tall bed, a low seat simply disappears. Measure total depth with the backrest angle included, because that is the number that decides whether the chair blocks the walkway, not the width most people reach for first.

Weaves, Upholstery and Metal Frames

Our accent chairs pair welded rod or tube metal frames with weaving and cushions worked by hand in Bogotá. An open weave lets air through and keeps small rooms feeling light, while an upholstered seat with a loose cushion adds warmth and can be washed separately. To care for them, vacuum the weave now and then with a soft brush head and keep them out of full day direct sun, which is what fades the fibres.
