How Tall Should a Dining Chair Be

Standard seat height runs 45 to 47 cm, sized for a 75 cm table. Comfort comes from the gap between the two: leave 28 to 30 cm of clear space between the seat and the underside of the tabletop. Less than that traps your legs, and more forces your shoulders up while you eat. If your table has an apron or stretchers, measure to that piece rather than to the surface.

Woven synthetic fibre breathes, stays light and wipes clean with a damp cloth, which makes it the practical choice for everyday dining and warm climates. Upholstery adds warmth and softens echo in apartments with hard floors, though it asks for treated fabric or removable covers where there are children or pets. The welded metal frame is what holds everything together, and it is the reason a slim chair takes constant use without loosening at the joints.

How Many Chairs Fit Around Your Table

Allow roughly 60 cm of table edge per person, or 65 to 70 cm for chairs with armrests. Measure the length of your top and divide by 60: a 180 cm table seats six comfortably, three along each long side, or six plus two at the ends if the width allows. Check that the armrests clear the underside of the table as well, because chairs that cannot tuck in sit permanently in the walkway and make the room feel narrower.
