The Right Plant Stand Height for Each Plant

Trailing plants such as pothos or ferns look their best 60 to 80 cm off the floor, where the foliage can fall freely; medium plants like a young monstera sit better at 30 to 45 cm; and large plants in heavy pots want a low pedestal or none at all. Light is the other useful criterion: raising a plant 40 cm can bring it close enough to the window to change how it grows, without moving any furniture.

Protecting Floors and Furniture from Watering

Water seeping out from under a pot is the most common damage to timber floors and rugs. Always use a saucer, let the pot drain for fifteen minutes after watering, and empty the excess rather than leaving the plant standing in water, which rots the roots anyway. Metal structures with a powder coated finish handle constant humidity far better than timber or wicker, which is why we recommend them for plants that get watered often.

Shelves: What They Hold and How to Fix Them

Before installing, identify the wall material. In brick or concrete, the right plug will hold a loaded shelf without complaint; in plasterboard you need a butterfly anchor and it pays to spread the load across more fixing points. Always place heavy objects near the supports rather than in the middle of the span. For wall compositions, leave 30 to 40 cm of vertical space between shelves, which is what lets you lift a pot in and out without scraping the one above.
